Friday the 13th Remake
Friday the 13th (1980)- The original Friday the 13th will always be one of the best slashers to ever be created. This story focuses on a group of teens that go to Camp Crystal Lake to become counselors because they are trying to reopen the camp. This movie is basically just teens partying and celebrating the reopening of the camp without even knowing that there is a killer on the loose that is stalking them and killing them one by one. Now if you are looking for the the Jason, hockey masked killer in this movie then you will be left with disappointment because he doesn’t show up until the sequel which leaves us with just some random killer. Which honestly I had no problem with it gave us a mysterious killer that is killing these teenagers for some reason that we really don’t find out about until the end and this gives this movie some great suspense. I thought that the kill scenes were pretty good, the one with the arrow going through Kevin Bacon’s neck was absolutely crazy. The story line fit well with the motive towards the end, when we find out that Ms. Vorhees is the killer and the reason she is doing these terrible things is basically for revenge because her son drowned when the counselors were supposed to be watching him. So I guess she feels like all the camp counselors that come to Crystal Lake deserve to die. The only thing I didn’t like about this classic was that we find out that the killer is Ms. Vorhees who is a middle aged women and she is able to just kill and throw people through windows like it’s nothing. It is kind of a little hard to believe that a women of her age can do all of that to the young men that are in the camp. Although I didn’t like that it didn’t mean that it killed the movie this classic was still very good and still gets talked about till this day. The acting was okay I thought that Kevin Bacon did a really good job but other than him everyone else was decent. Overall I loved the film it was a little unbelievable but the movie still had a great story line and some great kills. The suspense is probably what made this movie and showing how she stalked her victims and killed them so smoothly. It also wouldn’t of had hurt to put more of Jason in the film because this is his movie after all. I give this movie a 8/10.
Friday the 13th (2009)- This remake is basically the first 3 original Friday the 13ths in one movie. The movie starts out showing Ms. Vorhees getting her head cut off by a young counselor, just like in the original but in this movie it consumed only 5 minutes of the film maybe less but in the original it was the whole movie which was a little too much for me. They showed us really all we needed too see and that was that the mother died and this caused Jason to start killing. After that we see the Jason that wore a bag on his head for maybe half of the movie until he found the mask after he killed some poor guy in a barn and after that we see the Jason that wears the hockey mask. So right there it was like the three films in one. Now this movie starts off with a group of teens that go to camp crystal lake looking for weed plants and Jason winds up finding them and killing them but we find out later in the movie that he kept one girl alive because she kind of looked like his mother and was carrying the necklace with a picture of the mother in it. So instead of killing her he kept her alive kind of as a hostage. The plot of the movie is about a guy named Clay who is played by Jared Padalecki and Clay is looking for his sister around crystal lake where she has gone missing about 6 months ago. Even with that plot they still found a way to put partying and alcohol along with sex into this film with the other main characters in this movie who came up to one of the teens houses by Crystal Lake to party and have fun. The kill count in this movie is beyond high, there were so many kills and the kill scenes were all amazing like honestly it had me entertained the whole time. They also made Jason bigger in this movie and actually had him run after his victims which made it even more scarier and more realistic that he would be able to catch them by running instead of doing the really slow walk that he did in the film. The acting in this movie was off the charts I thought that all of the actors did a great job. The writers and directors did a really good job with putting their own original ideas into this movie as well. This story line was really good and you can tell they put a lot of effort and time into making their story of Jason different from the original. For the first time ever in a Friday the 13th movie we see someone try to explain and show how Jason always knows where his victims are around the camp and how he gets to them so quickly. They showed this by showing us that Jason set up traps that if someone walked over a certain area it would send a signal and would make a certain noise which will help him understand where the people are at. The same place that the signal would go to which was underground is the same place where Jason would go to hear the noise and to run to the location underground and get to the spot of the noise. It made Jason seem really smart and clever and I really liked that. Overall I really loved and enjoyed this movie it brought a new and original story to the Friday the 13th franchise and I think that the acting and directing/writing was very well done. I really have no complaints about this movie I loved everything about it. This was a great slasher film. I give this movie a 9/10.
What better day to post about Friday the 13th then on a Friday which happens to be the 13th. I just finished watching both of these films as we speak and I am going to probably watch a lot more.
So in my opinion the remake of Friday the 13th was better then the original. It just explained more things then the original did and cut out things that we really did not need to see, but don’t get me wrong I still think the original is a great film and everyone should still watch it but in my opinion the remake is the better film.
