Today is an extremely sad day. We all found out that the great horror icon himself (Wes Craven) has passed at the age of 76. The man created some of the best horror movies to date, along with 2 highly successful horror franchises that will continue to live on and show his legacy. Not only did Wes Craven help define the horror genre, but he also helped revive it when many horror movies were terrible in the late 90’s (Exception of Scream). Since you’re all following me, I’m pretty sure you’re all aware that Scream is my all time favorite horror movie franchise ever and hearing this news is terrible, but all that’s left to be said is thank you for the scares and for the memories. You will forever be the greatest horror director and will truly be missed!! Time for a marathon!
Plot: After a video of Audrey and Rachel kissing goes viral, high school student Nina and her boyfriend Tyler are brutally murdered which soon rattles Lakewood to a murderer who struck 20 years ago.
Review: It’s been a while since I’ve been on here, but most of you guys know the Scream series just started. All of you must’ve known I would have to come back to review this, I mean how couldn’t I , Scream is my all time favorite horror franchise after all. Let’s get more in depth with this review.
The story is mediocre at best, actually maybe a little better than that. Before I get into what I liked about Scream, there were a few things that I necessarily didn’t quite understand. For starters, the opening scene was kind of confusing and the way that the director had put those things together made it seem like that is the reason for these killings. I’m pretty sure we will get a better understanding of all that in the future, but they could’ve went deeper on that. The one thing I really like about the Scream story is how we’re learning everyones back story including the moms. That alone made me think about who the killer can be the whole episode and I’m glad I got that feel, because it felt like a Scream movie. Still don’t know how I feel about the mask, know they were looking for an original look, but it looks like shit compared to the original. How was the acting, you may ask? Well, it was absolute shit. I can’t even lie to you and say it was decent or one person shined. Like no, lol, they were all terrible. Honestly, don’t get your hopes up, because the acting will make you want to vomit. They were trying to be funny, but said some corny jokes that just made you dislike some of the characters even more. Only bright spot was Bella Thorne and we all know how that went. Although, this might have been good for her, look at where Scream has led Barrymore. Coincidence? I think not!
Did the Scream succeed as a horror show? In this area of Scream I believe the director absolutely delivered. I can’t lie the show did bring the terror, it kept my heart racing the whole time. Scream had a great kill scene, good blood, good build up(especially in the throwback scene), and did a good job in general with keeping the viewer on the edge. Just wish there can be more kills, but that’s not going to happen in Scream the show. This one was awesome though. Final Verdict: Scream had a decent pilot that I do feel is worth a watch. It will be interesting to see how this show progresses. It was nice seeing the character connection to Randy. The show also provided great scares and kills. Although, when it comes down to it, Scream lacked a strong story and had some terrible actors. The show kind of felt like three different things in one. That being Scream mixed with I Know What You Did Last Summer, and Pretty Little Liars. Would’ve been nice if they made it just feel like Scream, but I know it’s hard, which is why I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt. Like Noah said.. “You can’t turn a slasher movie into a TV show.” I agree, but I wish this show the best.
This movie starts off with a group of teenagers who are getting ready to go on vacation to a cabin to have a good time. As they are driving they see a gas station so they pull over and load up their car with gas. While they are loading up their car with the gas they tell the guy that is working there that they are going to a lake that is somewhere around here. Once the guy hears that he starts laughing and saying you’re all going to die. Now after seeing the beginning of the movie I thought it was going to be a pretty good horror movie with maybe a slasher vibe in it. I thought the teens were going to get killed one by one by someone or something that lived there. Well that part was somewhat true. Eventually we find out that this is no ordinary cabin, that this cabin is above a laboratory that is under the cabins basement and the scientists that are down there have prepared a set of choices for the group of teens in the basement of the cabin. Now you may think that I just ruined the whole movie for you but I didn’t you find out about the scientists within the first 20 mins of the movie. So back to the film, once the teens arrive at the home they start to party until one of them stumbles onto this secret entrance into the basement. They make their way down there and see all these different objects that resemble different cultures or religions or basically in this film the many different ways that they can die and the way that they die is depended on which object they choose. They choose this object that makes a zombie type of family come after them. This is where the movie honestly picks up a little bit there are good kill scenes and they made the whole vibe of this film scary. There was creepy scenes and who wouldn’t like that in a scary movie. You see now I would have been perfectly fine with this film if they ended it right there. That the kids who survived just either got away or left after they found out about the laboratory and started to make their way out of it. But the ending man it was so unexpected and so stupid that it literally mind-fucked me. It made me regret watching the film and had me thinking what did I just waste my time watching. Killed the movie, I am not going to ruin the ending but just know that it sucked and you will probably hate it. Overall I hated the film it was without a doubt one of the most terrible movies that I have ever seen. Honestly the only part that I liked was when they released the zombies, other then that the laboratory and science stuff about the film was just awful but that is not what killed the movie it was all the ending. I don’t recommend anybody to watch this movie, everyone I know and talked to hated the film and thought it was a joke. So yea if you haven’t watched this movie do yourself a favor and never watch it.
I give this movie a 2/10
The sequel to the hit original film lived up to its potential or hype, well at least I thought it did. I read some comments on other reviews saying how Scream 2 wasn’t bad but it wasn’t good either, that people just didn’t think it was as good as they thought it would be. Well I would have to disagree, but everyone has there own opinions so I do understand that but this movie was a very solid sequel. It starts off with a great opening scene, we see Jada Pinkett Smith going to see the movie “Stab” which is based on the Woods-borough murders with her boyfriend in the film. So while the boyfriend goes to the bathroom ghost face kills him puts on his clothes goes back into the movie theater and stabs Jada Smith. After she gets stabbed she gets up and tries to walk away but the killer just comes up behind her and stabs her multiple times and nobody realizes anything because everyone in the movie theater was acting crazy. Then she just crawls on top of the stage and falls down and everyone realizes that she actually got stabbed but that was such a crazy intense scene and it was only the beginning of the film. I was drawn into the movie right there. The rest of the movie takes place with Sidney and Randy attending college and they have made new friends and looked like they actually were starting to get their life together again. Well at least until what happened in the movies and that is when we start to see more killings. This movie did a great job by bringing more kills into the film that was the only problem I really had with the first one even though I still loved the film it was nice seeing more kills in this movie. We also see Cotton Weary in this film which if you remember from the first film is the man that Sidney wrongly accused of killing her mother. I really liked his character and it gave him such a great motive to be the killer, that is if he was the killer? Yeah watch the movie I am not ruining that. There isn’t really anything else to say about the story line just they went to college the killer followed them and they try to survive the second wave of killings and leads up to a great ending that I did not see coming at all. So, overall I liked the film a lot and the suspense was at an all time high in this movie there were so many people that I thought cold be the killer so it made you think really long and hard about who it could be. The kills like I said were a higher amount then the first film and they were good kill scenes. As for the acting, it was just superb I love all the original characters from the first film and all the new characters that they put in this film. It was a really great cast! I hated but kind of liked that they made one out of the like 6 main characters die, it was a shame to see the person go but made sense that it was that person. Who was it you may ask? Well watch the movie and you will find out !
I give this movie a 8.5/10
