Entering the world of roller derby we meet our heroine Cherry Skye (Amber Sajben) the star player of the local league. After winning the derby/match she is celebrating with her team and new love interest Brad (Jake Brown) while the team they beat happens to have the ex-girlfriend of Brad, Hell Grazer (Rachael Blackwood) who is also you classic bully figure. I hear people saying this just sounds like a chick-flick with an unusual sport, well we will get to the horror now.
After a couple get killed by a mysterious skater our heroine gets a visit from the also mysterious Janitor (Max Marchione) who shows her an even on the derby track which included the murder and vanishing of four skaters. Twenty years later the skater in questions Momma Stake (Be-On The-Rocks) has come back to continue a murderous rampage she went on. The victims this time are the skaters on both teams and along with her weapon of choice she leaves plenty of bodies behind her. Cherry must figure out a way to stop her before she takes her soul.
This was made on a budget of 6000 Australian Dollars (which is just over $5000 American) it has an interesting story that a lot of big budget film can’t seem to get right with all their remakes/reboots or sequels. This is fun, a little bit mad but most of all original, this is so important for a low budget horror film.
We do have a lot of cheesy lines that come off really well, loads of blood splatter and some great kills. All this shows you don’t need big budget to make good quality horror, with good kills, solid effects. This is an enjoyable horror.
My Rating 7.5/10
