When a couple of campers’ trip gets interrupted by a meteorite strike, they go to investigate. Inside the meteorite has an alien creature inside that makes the campers its first meal on Earth. With the creatures moving into a small local town they take up a home in a basement. The creatures continue to spread through the local area and interrupt a coffee day which is actually very funny.
In the basement the creatures make a meal out of a couple while the rest of the family believe they have gone out early. While the family happens have one young horror fan who enjoys nothing more than to dress up and scare the shit out of the family. Add in four teenagers who find a dead creature and want to know more about it by dissecting it. The teenagers find out the house is starting to get over run by the creatures and have to fight to survive while the young boy Chris figures out a way to control them. How many will survive the horror?
Reaction: with a budget of $25,000 this really was a good example of how you can make a horror film with little to no money unlike certain horrors we have now. The story isn’t difficult to follow think ‘Slither’ with a much smaller budget and you know what you are going to get here.
We do get some interesting creature designs and some very well made special effects for the production costs. We do have very shocking death scenes including someone having their head bitten off. We have the pre-teen who is similar to Corey Feldman’s roles in Friday the 13th Part 3 and Gremlins as someone who actually does have an idea what is going on and makes things happen.
In the end this is very trashy film that could easily be enjoyed by many different horror fans, it has dated but works well to fit into the style it creates. It won’t come up on anyone favourite list but once you have seen it you may bring it up in a conversation when you see other films which use similar ideas.
My Rating 6/10
