When eight strangers Kate (Kari Matchett), Simon (Geraint Wyn Davies), Sasha (Grace Lynn Kung), Max (Matthew Ferguson), Jerry (Neil Crone), Mrs Paley (Barbara Gordon) Julia (Lindsey Connell) and Colonel Maguire (Bruce Gray) find themselves trapped inside a cube like structure, they have to figure out a way out.
As each door is opened we learn more about the people trapped we learn that Kate is actually a psychotherapist trained to deal with this situation. Simon is a private investigator looking for a missing person. Sasha a blind student, Max a computer hacker, Jerry a designer involved in creating the doors in the cube, Mrs Paley a genius who has gone a little bit crazy and Julia a lawyer. They all have connections but much like the original, but can they figure it out before it is too late.
Unlike the original which was all about deadly traps in certain doors, this seems to have the traps almost chase them around the cube. Also unlike the original we don’t know how the twist will happen but this time we have similar characters or similar outcomes and mind sets in each character.
The film does do well to take out the answers you were expecting after seeing the clues from the first one and even though the twists are predictable, but the final twist really gives this film its high point. The lack of intelligence behind the traps really lets the fans down with them all being CGI rather than clever practical special effects.
This would have to go down as the series weakest point because it tried to use poor CGI, unoriginal characters and loses the suspense the first film gave you.
My Rating is 4/10
