Who doesn’t enjoy a great laugh? I for one am always willing to see some great comedy in a movie, and that can be any genre, including horror. Today my guest bloggers and I will be giving a top 5 list for our favorite horror comedies! Who says you can’t laugh and be scared at the same time? This is a versus post so make sure you fill in the poll!
My Top 5
5. Leprechaun (1993)
This has always been one of my favorite movies as a kid. The movie is about a little leprechaun who follows a man back to his house to get his gold back. He is willing to do anything, including killing people, in order to get what he wants. The film can scare you with the intense kill scenes, but the leprechaun says some funny lines whenever he is murdering someone. The leprechaun himself even looks scary, but what’s funnier than a little leprechaun trying to kill people.
4. Zombieland (2009)
3. Gremlins (1984)
How can I not put this in my top 5 list? This is a classic and till this day still feel enjoyment when I watch this movie. The movie may not be 100% scary, but it can scare you and does a good job with also giving you some laughs. The creatures are also pretty terrifying as well.
2. Scary Movie (2000)
The movie that makes fun of horror movies, the one that started it all. The movie provides a little bit of scares, but the humor is off the charts. This movie was very well created and will always be one of my favorites.
1. Shaun of the Dead (2004)
Everyone should have been expecting this one. The movie delivers in every way possible, seriously. In my opinion no other movie can even compete with this one in the horror/comedy genre. This film will go down as one of the greats.

5. My Name Is Bruce (2007)
4. Frighteners (1996)
After a tragic car accident that killed his wife, a man discovers he can communicate with the dead to con people but when a demonic spirit appears, he may be the only one who can stop it from killing the living and the dead.
3. Tucker & Dale versus Evil (2010)
2. American Werewolf In London (1981)
1. Army Of Darkness (1992)
Chris’s Top 5
Talk about irony! Horror movies are designed to frighten viewers, but it’s a fascinating concept that we can actually bend them to our will for a completely different outcome…laughter. Whether it’s a horror comedy or just a spoof, I’m all about laughing at a genre that could be called the least laughable form of entertainment.
5. House II (1987)
I find many movies of the past to be nothing more than a dull bore with their cheesy effects, lower quality, and odd haircuts. But House II had such a silliness about it that I couldn’t look away. Sure, it’s lame and ridiculous with the ideas that were poured into it, but it had a fair plot filled with the right amount of humor. You may be asking why I didn’t mention the original 1986 House. This would be due to the fact that I haven’t seen it. Yeah, I’m sporadic in my movie watching…
4. Zombieland (2009)
I may not be into vampires, but I never said I didn’t like zombies. In fact, when it comes to horror cliches, zombies are my favorite! Naturally I fell for the 2009 zombie comedy that showed the world just how funny a life around zombies could be.
3. Scary Movie 3 (2003)
Stupidity has no place to hide in this hilarious horror spoof film. There are 5 Scary Moviesaltogether now, and the third one remains my favorite. I was only a kid when I first watched this movie, but it had me ROFL’ing every time I watched it! Though the franchise has now lost it’s touch, and the movies don’t provide the same level of entertainment to me that they once did, I’ll still always remember them, especially Scary Movie 3.
My apologies to the older readers. If you’re drawing social security checks you probably don’t understand the ROFL comment. ROFL means “rolling on the floor laughing”. At least it did the last time I checked. Kids these days…always changing shit.
2. A Haunted House (2013)
YUP! It’s another spoof movie! YAY! Random and dumb have become the new guidelines for humor in modern comedies. This one absolutely nailed it! It’s honestly a ridiculous excuse for a movie, even a comedy for that matter. But I can’t deny the fact that it had me laughing nearly the whole way through. I despise the Paranormal Activity movies, and found it refreshing that someone actually spoofed them.
1. Shaun of the Dead (2004)
It’s the first movie that came to mind because it is in fact, the best horror comedy that there is! Shaun of the Dead is a giggle box jump starter, just sure to get you going! Just two not so bright dudes fighting the zombie apocalypse. Who knew it could be so funny? If you haven’t seen this film, then firstly you’ll need to dig yourself out of the hole you’ve been in, and then you NEED TO SEE THIS FILM. Hell, come over to my house and we’ll watch it together! I’ve got mini cupcakes to snack on as we watch. Yeah…MINI CUPCAKES! Combine junk food with a great comedy and you’ve got one heck of a good time!

5. Shaun of the Dead (2004)
Shaun of the Dead is a movie close to my little British heart. Taking the zombie genre and throwing in Simon Pegg and Nick Frost is a recipe for the incredible. Add a little gore with a LOT of laughs and you’ve got yourself a perfect British comedy-horror. I adore the characters and how they’re portrayed, the zombies look amazing and the story is so stereotypical it’s excellent.
4. Sharknado (2013)
You can’t have a horror-comedy list without Sharknado. It’s got to be one of my favourite worst movies, ever. It’s on my list purely down to the fact that it’s so awful, it’s funny and entertaining. The acting, the production value and the story add in to made one incredibly hilarious movie.
3. Tucker and Dale vs. Evil (2010)
I’d only recently seen Tucker and Dale having come across it a lot. The stereotypical hillbilly term is used to its fullest in this gory, hilarious take on teen slasher movies with an incredible twist. The characters are enjoyable and you find yourself rooting for surprising people. A great take on the backwoods hillbilly genre with some fun thrown in, too.
2. Piranha 3D (2010)
Piranha was brought to life for me with its super-gory, super-sexy 3D release. With an amazing cast (and excellent cameo from part time psychopath Eli Roth), cracking soundtrack and enough laughs to even out the piranha induced gore-fest it’s a perfect movie to add to my list.
1. Eight Legged Freaks (2002)
An incredible take on typical and older monster movies with a great modern twist. The play on common arachnophobia is clever, and though used often, makes for a great addition to the monster movie list. There’s a great mix of comedy and scares within the movie and from a personal stance brings my love of spiders and monster movies into one.
