Before I even get to the review let me just start out by saying that this film started the slasher film franchises. John Carpenter did an amazing job with the whole film and he gave other directors ideas to help create slasher franchises of their own (like Friday the 13th). Overall there is nothing not to like about this amazing film. The acting was superb, Jamie Lee Curtis did such a good job as the lead role for her first major film. The opening scene gives you a look at 6 year old Michael Myers and shows you how troubled he is. We witness his first kill when he brutally murders his sister in her own bedroom. It was just amazing seeing his expression how they made him walk out the house and wait for his parents like it was nothing as if he didn’t just kill his sister even though he was holding a knife covered in blood in his hand. This night which was on Halloween (which is why he was wearing the clown costume) is when Michael Myers gets sent to a psychiatric prison because of the horrible things he has done. They skip 15 years into the future after that to when Myers breaks out of the prison and drives away. I personally love that scene because how the hell does he know how to drive? Like he has been locked up since he was 6 he should not know how to work a car, but oh well I found it funny anyway. This is when Jamie Lee Curtis first appears in the film and everything sees normal, she is just a regular teenager that’s going to high school. We also see more of Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasance) who was his psychiatrist for 15 years and he knew from the beginning where Michael was going but nobody ever believed him. He also was the only one who realized how truly evil Michael is. So yea, Michael went back to Haddonfield which was his childhood neighborhood but we didn’t really know why he was so interested in Lori (Jamie Lee Curtis). But we we eventually find out that she is Michael’s younger sister so he basically just wanted to kill off his family. The kills are not that gory but I really liked the kill scenes they did a marvelous job with anything, honestly no complaints. There isn’t really that many kills in the film there is more of a stalking type of vibe in the film. The ending was intriguing it really gets you into the movie the fact that Dr. Loomis shoots Myers and Myers falls off the balcony and down to the ground. Now we assume that he is dead but when they go down there to see if he is there or not he just vanished. He was no where to be found. This shows the audience that he is immortal but unlike Jason Vorhees if Michael gets hit he stays down for a while like a minute or maybe even more whenever Jason got hit he just bounced back up. That just makes it so unfair. But there really isn’t much that you can say about a classic film like this one but I enjoyed it and if you haven’t seen it yet know would be the time to watch it.
